If you have ever tried to travel with a pet, you know the difficult reality of finding a place that welcomes animals. Though most pets and pet owners are as clean and respectful as their non-pet-owning counterparts (or even more so), there are still some proprietors who maintain an aversion to hosting animals alongside their owners. Maybe you have felt frustrated at being turned away, or maybe you are looking forward to the possibility of traveling with your beloved dog or cat. Either way, we would like to offer you some helpful resources throughout our traveling with pets series this week. Today, we will touch on the subject of pet-friendly hotels.
Pet Friendly Hotel and Rental Resources
With the popularity of traveling with pets, specifically dogs, on the rise, most vacation rentals and hotel sites offer a helpful advanced search option which limits results to those that accept animals. Unfortunately, some hotels or rentals take only small dogs, so be sure to find out more specifics following your search. Contacting each so-call “pet friendly” hotel’s proprietor is essential for a successful trip. We highly recommend finding out specifics from the following resources in order to ensure that your dog will be welcomed on your vacation. Visit the following links for pet friendly vacation spots — home rentals as well as hotels — around the globe.
- Vacation Home Rentals This site’s advanced search page allows users to seek home rentals across the globe in which pets are allowed.
- Pet Vacation Homes This website is devoted specifically to homes and locations in which pets are welcomed.
- Pets Welcome This site lists hotels in various locations that accept pets.
- Dog Friendly This site has a lot of information, including pet-friendly hotels around the U.S. as well as other site-specific information about a variety of cities/areas.
Though I still hear about places in which animals are not welcomed, I am encouraged about the rise in the number of pet-friendly hotels, vacation rentals, and destinations around the country. Enjoy your summer of travel with your dog or cat!

We travel with our pup all the time. Some hotels that are pet friendly, I would say are only pet tolerant; as in you have to stay in only specific rooms (first floor facing parking) and are not allowed in all common areas. One of the best pet friendly hotels is the Lake Arrowhead Resport and Spa in California. Lowes is also very good.
Hi Lisa, thank you for your comments and the additional information on the pet friendly hotels in CA.
